Hispanic Heritage Month in DC

It’s Hispanic Heritage Month! Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15th to October 15th. This month celebrates and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the culture, history, and achievements of the United States. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this year, DC has various events to attend!

1 ⋆ DC Public Libraries’ Hispanic Heritage Month Events

Different libraries around DC will be having various Hispanic Heritage Month events for the next month! Some of these events include distribution of craft kits that celebrate numerous countries that participate in Hispanic Heritage Month. This kit includes a Papel Picado craft, Ojo de Dios Craft, Crossword Puzzle, coloring pages, and more. Additionally, there will be scavenger hunts to find clues and learn about famous Hispanic Americans, crafts, and bilingual reading events. 3 ⋆ I Survived La Chancla Comedy Slam - Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Enjoy a laugh and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on September 24th at the “I Survived La Chancla” Comedy Event. This show and afterparty features an all Latinx lineup of comedians that have performed at such venues like the DC Improv, Magoobys, Broadway Comedy Club, and places around the DMV and abroad. The comedy event will be at Simple Bar and Grill at 5802 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20011. The show starts at 8pm and doors open at 7pm. 4 ⋆ 2022 Manassas Latino Festival

The Manassas Latino Festival is an annual event that celebrates the cultural heritage and contributions of the Latin American community to DC, the surrounding areas and to our nation. The festival will include events you don’t want to miss like live music, dance performances, diverse foods and other fun activities for the entire family. The festival is free to attend and will take place on Saturday, September 24th from 12pm to 7pm at the Loy E. Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110. 5 ⋆ Fiesta DC

Fiesta DC is an annual celebration highlighting Latino culture. The celebration will take place on September 24th and 25th and includes a parade of nations, a children’s festival, a beauty pageant, a science fair, a diplomatic pavilion for embassies and consulates, arts and crafts stations, and traditional Mexican and South/Central American cuisine. 6 ⋆ Latin American Film Festival

From September 22nd to October 12th, attend the 33rd annual AFI Latin American Film Festival at the American Film Institute in Silver Spring to experience one of North America’s largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema. With the inclusion of films from Spain and Portugal, the festival celebrates Ibero-American cultural connections during National Hispanic Heritage Month. This year’s extensive selection of 41 films from 21 countries spans international festival favorites and award winners, local box-office hits and dynamic debuts from a new generation of Latin American filmmakers. 7 ⋆ Virginia Hispanic Chamber’s Restaurante Week

From October 10th to 16th, celebrate Virginia Hispanic Chamber’s Restaurante Week! Restaurante week is a week-long celebration of Latin Cuisine throughout the state of Virginia where people can explore the many different types of flavors that make up the diverse world of Latin Cuisine. Featured Restaurants will offer a special for the week and will be highlighted at the top of the Restaurante Week webpage. Each box will include the restaurant’s name, location, contact information, website/menu link, and the featured special for the week. Specials will be available each day during the week.
